Renal Lithiasis

Renal Lithiasis is a metabolic disease characterized by the formation of kidney stones on the renal pelvis or urinary tract, and triggers some acute episodes of severe pain know as “renal colic”.
The prevalence of Renal Lithiasis or Urolithiasis, stood at 10% of the world population, i.e. 700 million people worldwide, with a recurrence rate of 60% at 5 years and 80% over10 years, making it a chronic metabolic disease. The annual incidence would be around 1% of the population.

Only in Spain about 400,000 hospital emergencies takes place each year because of this disease, with a rough average costs for the Spanish National Health System of 3.300€ per patient per year.
