Dr Galán is currently working as a consultant urologist at the Urolithiasis, Endourology and Lithotripsy Unit in the General University Hospital Dr Balmis, in Alicante.

Obtained the MD (1988) and PhD (1995) degrees at the University of Valencia (Spain). Dedicated to the integral management of stone disease since 1990, was granted with an AEU fellowship for The Center for Mineral Metabolism and Clinical Research, in Dallas. Southwestern Medical School, The University of Texas (Sept-Nov,1996), with Prof CYC Pak.

Staff urologist at the University General Hospitals of Elche and Alicante, Head of Urology Department at Vinalopó University Hospital, Elche (2010 to 2018), and at General University Hospital Dr Balmis, Alicante (2019 to 2023).

He was associate professor at the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) in Elche, Chairman of the Spanish Association of Urology (AEU) Urolithiasis Group (2008-2012), and board member of EULIS-Group of Urolithiasis of the EAU (2013-2021), Valencian Community Association of Urology (AUCV), and currently of SECLA (Spanish Society of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery) since 2015.

Chair of the AEU’s  XIX Meeting of Urolithiasis, Endourology, and Laparoscopy, Alicante (2007),  III EULIS Meeting, Alicante (2015), and co-chair of Experts in Stone Disease (ESD) Conference, Valencia (2024).

He has directed 2 Doctoral Thesis and evaluated 20, presented more than 150 communications at national and international meetings. Invited lecturer in more than 80 national and international meetings, has published 80+ papers, 12 book chapters and an Atlas on Urolithiasis. Guest editor of two monographies on urolithiasis for Archivos Españoles de Urología (2017 and 2021). Director of the Master “Update on Urologic Surgery” (2017-2022) at the CH University (Valencia). Member of AEU, EAU, IAU, SEGUR, AUCV and SECLA.

Reviewer for 10 urology and nephrology journals, his expertise involves urolithiasis, endourology and laparoscopy/robotics.
