One of the recommendations associated with monitoring urinary pH in the treatment of urological diseases related to the acid-base balance of urine is for the person to be able to self-monitor the pH measurement of their urine.
Telemedicine has advanced considerably in recent years. A very clear example is the Lit-Control Method. It allows for this self-monitoring through a small device that measures the pH value of urine, along with food supplements that help increase or decrease urinary pH, depending on each need.
This method is especially intended for people prone to kidney stone formation, those with urinary catheters, those affected by recurrent cystitis and urinary tract infections, those with painful bladder syndrome or overactive bladder, among other urinary system pathologies related to the acid-base balance of urine.
The fact that these people take responsibility for their own monitoring provides a series of advantages:
- Greater autonomy and convenience: the urine pH value can be measured at home without having to travel to a medical center.
- More frequent checks: it can be verified at all times that the urinary pH value remains within the recommended therapeutic range and that prevention is being carried out correctly.
- Immediate results: the device calculates the value instantly and the food supplements help correct the effects of diet and metabolism itself.
This type of self-monitoring method is also used in other diseases such as diabetes, where small meters are used to calculate the amount of glucose in the blood and prevent episodes of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia (excess or lack of glucose, respectively) or to assess insulin injection immediately; and also in treatment with oral anticoagulants, where coagulometers are used to measure blood clotting time, ensure that the drug dose is correct for each person, and thus avoid the risk of thrombosis or hemorrhage.
For these reasons, the advantages of self-monitoring translate into an improvement in the quality of life of the affected person, as it provides greater freedom, responsibility, and adherence to treatment.
