How can urinary pH affect kidney stone formation?
If crystals are present in the urine and urinary pH is above 6.2, conditions are favorable for the formation of infection-related stones, calcium phosphate stones, or calcium oxalate stones induced by calcium phosphate. If pH is below 5.5, the formation of cystine stones, uric acid stones, or calcium oxalate stones induced by uric acid is favored. In some cases, the mere presence of crystals and a lack of physiological inhibitors of crystallization may promote kidney stone formation even without pH alteration. Proper urinary pH control can reduce the risk of kidney stone formation.
Is it possible to dissolve calcium oxalate stones?
No, it is not possible. In some cases, if the stone is COD (calcium oxalate dihydrate), small, and recently formed, it may break down into small fragments that are easily eliminated. However, this is not due to citrate intake, but rather increased fluid intake and mobility.
How can I control and monitor my urinary pH?
Lit-Control® pH Meter is the world's first self-diagnostic medical device for urinary pH control. It is designed for simple, accurate, at-home monitoring of urinary pH.
