70% of the body is made up of water, which is why it is vital and indispensable for human beings. Water helps eliminate toxins and transport vitamins and minerals.1 In addition, it also:

  • Boosts the immune system

What happens to our body if we don't drink water?2

When we don't drink water, our body becomes dehydrated. At an organic level, the brain releases an antidiuretic hormone that reaches our kidneys and causes aquaporins, a protein that regulates the water that reaches the blood.

Symptoms of dehydration:

  • Dark urine
  • Fatigue
  • Cramps
  • Headache
  • Thirst
  • Mood swings
  • Memory and attention loss

Main diseases that occur if we don't drink enough water3:

  • Urinary infections: To prevent them, it is advisable to drink plenty of water throughout the day and sometimes supplement with products formulated with ingredients that help keep urine in optimal conditions, preventing the accumulation of minerals and encrustation in catheters, probes and other urological devices.
  • Kidney stones: By not drinking enough water, low urine levels will concentrate solid substances in the body, causing kidney stones. If you are a patient prone to them, remember to take Lit-Control to help maintain good urinary wellness.

How much fluid does an adult living in a temperate climate need?1

The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adult needs to ingest approximately 3.7 liters of fluid if male and 2.7 liters of fluid if female. It should be noted that there are factors that can vary this amount such as:

  • The exercise performed
  • The environment; if the weather is warm and we sweat, we will need more fluid.
  • General health.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
