The food supplement Methiophytin® is the combination of L-methionine, a urine pH acidifier, and phytate, a powerful inhibitor of the crystallisation of calcium salts.
This specific combination of ingredients improves antibiotic activity by increasing the concentration of antibiotics in the urine and promoting their bioactive chemical form, in particular the following antibiotics: Tetracycline, Doxycycline, Cefotaxime, Cephalothin, Cephalothin, Cefazolin, Ceftazidime, Piperacillin, Ampicillin, Nitrofurantoin, Fosfomycin and Methenamine hippurate.

Does it have side effects or interact with other medications?
No, Citrafitina® is made from plant extracts such as phytate and natural components like potassium citrate, recommended by the European Urology Guidelines. It is suitable for vegans and people with celiac disease (gluten-free), lactose-intolerant individuals, and diabetics as it contains no sugar. No side effects or interactions with medications have been reported.
Can I take it together with an antibiotic treatment?
Yes, it can be combined with antibiotic treatment to enhance the effectiveness of the antibiotic. The dosage in case of acute infection is 1 tablet every 8 hours for 5 days together with the antibiotic.
Which antibiotics does Citrafitina® work best with?
It works best with alkali-loving antibiotics, which are those that are most effective in a high urinary pH (pH > 6).
Does it work without antibiotics?
Absolutely. Citrafitina® creates a more toxic environment for certain bacteria. In a lower pH, there is a stronger bactericidal effect (fewer live bacteria) and a greater bacteriostatic effect (less bacterial growth).
Why is it recommended to take the tablets at night?
During the night, the body produces less urine and urination frequency decreases. This means that the active ingredients in Citrafitina® remain in the bladder for a longer time, allowing:
- Greater contact with the urinary mucosa, helping relieve symptoms.
- Greater effectiveness of potassium citrate in keeping urinary pH elevated for more hours.
- Better action of phytate by hindering bacterial growth while the body rests.
Is it dangerous to take Citrafitina® for a long period of time?
Not at all. You can take 1 tablet of Citrafitina® daily on a long-term basis. We recommend taking it at night!
Warnings and precautions
Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Keep out of reach of young children. If you are undergoing antibiotic treatment, it is recommended to take Citrafitina® one hour before the antibiotic. Store in a cool, dry place.
